Augment00

IoT Smart Desks for Impact Hub Tokyo

System Architect

2017

Augment00 was a commission by Impact Hub Tokyo for a collection of furniture, desks, cupboards and dividers, all containing embedded electronics and connected to a cloud platform.

Impact Hub Tokyo wanted to enhance their workspaces, providing tools for residents and space managers to use facilities more effectively, and also to use data to gain insights to help them better support growing businesses in the space.

Technology

  • Python
  • Docker
  • Tinker Forge
  • Rasperry Pi
  • InfluxDB
  • The project was a collaboration with architecture00, who managed to project, Opendesk who designed the furniture, Arup who designed the electronics and control software, and glowinthedark who designed the system architecture and created the deployment, data transport, platform and dashboard systems.

In the summer of 2017 27 pieces of furniture were manufactured in Shenzhen, shipped to Tokyo and installed with their embedded electronics.

Some of the code and designs for this project are open source and can be found in the augment00 github and the arupiot github

The open source a00_registry software that we wrote for this project is a cloud docker orchestration platform. This work has been taken further in our recent project orcast.
